Hull-based company, AAK UK, needed us to carry out a complete refit of their offices and canteen, which are used by about 100 people.
AAK have the largest edible oil refinery in the UK, and supply goods to businesses in the food service, bakery and manufacturing industries.
We won the work after offering a competitively-priced, one-stop project management service, enabling AAK to focus on its core business, rather than having to get involved in the detail.
This big turnkey project included a complete redesign of their space, as well as minor building works, decorating, furnishing, carpeting and replacing the data and power.
AAK UK now has a light and open office space complete with bright furniture and modern ‘linear’ workstations. We also designed new training rooms, boardrooms and social areas where all their staff can get together and relax with a coffee during the day.
As well as brand new furniture and fittings, AAK needed to get more out of their space. So we designed and planned the space of the entire building to help them get the best out of what they have.
David Claughton, Director at Claughtons, explains: “AAK told us that they quite often have overseas staff in from their offices in Sweden, so they needed extra hot desks and space. We put a space planning strategy in place across the whole building to help more of their staff work at any one time.”
The project was carried out in phases, as David explains: “It was AAK’s year end at the time, so they were even busier than usual. But by working in phases and handling the logistics efficiently, we were able to cut down disruption as much as possible so they could carry on working as normal.”
Les Bales, HR Manager at AAK, comments: “Claughtons handled the project in a way which allowed us to carry on our day-to-day operations – something which was crucial to our business.
“In a time when some businesses are cutting back, we still think it’s hugely important to invest in our employees. We now have an outstanding workplace fit for the 21st century, which makes a tangible difference to the company – both in strengthening the morale of the staff, and in creating a great first impression for our visitors. The new offices have helped us to be more efficient and, in terms of brand, reinforce the vision and values which are the cornerstones of AAK’s identity.”
